The Wrong Bin

This documentary short, released in 2011, examines the challenges NYC faced in improving its recycling and waste management systems. At the time, nearly 36% of the 2 million tons New Yorkers send to landfill are recyclable materials. The issue based documentary reveals the environmental and financial costs incurred when New Yorkers recycle poorly. The film includes interviews with Robert Lange (former Director of Recycling at the NYC Department of Sanitation), Thomas Outerbridge (General Manager, Sims Municipal Recycling), Eric Goldstein (National Resources Defense Council) and Benjamin Miller (former Director of Policy Planning, NYC Sanitation Department).

The film was licensed for screening by the EPA, NYC’s Sanitation Department and became part of Grow NYC’s Recycling Champions education program. Given its local focus, the film was screened throughout NYC and surrounding areas at small venues such as the Park Slope Food Coop and the Wallingford Public Library in Connecticut.

As you’ll see in the link above, the film is freely available for screening and please feel free to get in contact with me for more information.
